Cold day in the mountains, Polenta and Cioccolata Calda can warm us up!

Goodbye Torino! Today is our last day in Torino and we head out bright and early tomorrow morning.  Our train leaves around 9 and then we start our trip across Northern Italy.  Super excited for that.  These last two days I have done my best to see as much of Torino and enjoy every last minute here.  Unfortunately, I still have a lot of packing to do! Its amazing how nothing seems to fit even though I dont think I acquired that much more stuff.  Oh well, I'll make it work somehow.

So today we went to the mountains! We took a train to Cuneo and our Italian friends picked us up from there.  We drove through Vernante and Limone in Piemonte.  The train ride and the car ride through the mountains of Northern Italy was beautiful.  Unfortunately, it was extremely foggy and they kept telling us normally the mountains are much more beautiful when you can see them all.  But they were still quite the site to see anyway, and the little towns were really quaint and nice to walk through.

Il treno!
Alpi!
Driving through the alps, saw a sign for France, we literally were within 1 kilometer of the border at one point
Such an adorable little town in the mountains
Then we headed up the mountains to Chalet.  These mountains are where a lot of the Italians go skiing in the winter and so we drove by several ski lodges and awesome looking little areas.  We stopped at Chalet, which is one of these lodges and ate at this very cool restaurant and almost the entire interior was this light wood.  From the tables, chairs, walls, floors, ceilings it was just all wood and really cool to see.  Plus we had some very Italian food.  Polenta con formaggio and Cioccolata calda! Both were amazing.  The cheese on the polenta was awesome.  And Cioccolata calda literally translates to "Hot Chocolate" but it is very different than our version.  It is 10 times thicker and richer.  It is basically a cup full of melted chocolate.  Excellent.
everyone about to enjoy their polenta and chocolate, perfect for a cold rainy day
One of my friends got white hot chocolate.  They had pepper, orange, cinnamon, and several other flavors of hot chocolate too
I stuck with the extra dark hot chocolate and devoured my awesome polenta
You eat it with a spoon because it is too thick to drink.  yum
